Shot peening is a surface enhancement process which increases the fatigue life of a part. During the peening process small spherical media (shot media) impact the part’s surface creating compressive stresses. The compressive stresses work to replace the tensile stresses that may have been caused by previous operations such as welding, milling and grinding. The peening process results in a surface with increased fatigue strength and resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
Custom designed and manufactured, PTI’s 5-axis CNC machines can easily meet the requirements of many peening specifications including automatic, computerized with full data logging, rotary and stationary lance applications. This equipment can handle parts as large as 32″ diameter by 24″ tall as well as 24″ diameter by 36″ tall.
New Shot Peen Equipment with Dual Media Capacity
Our new machine’s dual media capacity involves state-of-the-art, six axis robotics and visual shot peen software designed to use different size shot peen media in back-to-back processes. This new equipment offers a larger part size (1,000 lb) capacity and allows for a quick change of shot peen types, giving customers a competitive edge with more efficient production times and faster turnaround.
It accommodates parts up to 40″ x 40″, and uses only high quality, conditioned, cut wire steel shot for its high durability and consistency in particle size and shape. We also provide cost-effective solutions to multiple process requirements, and have an in-house machine shop to make the required tooling for shot peen and other services.
In-House Machining & 3-D Modeling Capabilities
Our in house machining coupled with our parametric design software (3-D modeling) capabilities enable us to custom design and build tooling to uniquely mate your parts to all of our processes. We also offer finished machining of Teflon once bonded to your parts.
